MALOSSI 177cc SPORT ALUMINIUM CYLINDER KIT - LARGE FRAME VESPA 125-150 WITH 3 PORT CRANKCASES.

The aluminium Malossi SPORT (Touring) series finally arrives on the Vespa PX125-150 (also LML Star 125 2t) motors, with the all new 177cc cylinder kit, featuring nickel-chromium plated aluminium cylinder with 7 enlarged transfer ports, and a steel screw in exhaust stub, a very advanced light weight 63mm twin ring piston, and the very latest design of cylinder head for optimal cooling running a compression ratio of 1:10.8. Malossi are this one will sure be a real performer and are quoting 18 to 25 bhp depending on the final set up. This 177cc kit  and is for use with standard 57mm stroke crankshafts.

Malossi has extended its cylinder range for the Vespa largeframe engines with 125-150ccm (Sprint, PX, Cosa, LML) by the three cylinder versions Sport 177ccm, MHR 177ccm and MHR 187ccm.

They are completely new designed and have nothing to do with their predecessor made of cast iron and only 166ccm. The aluminium used as cylinder material makes the kit thermally more stable than the 166cc cylinder and now allows a Ø63mm bore. Externally the cylinders are almost identical. All three versions use the same cylinder head and the same piston (but the piston of the sports cylinder has two piston rings). The formerly patented CVF II system has been dispensed with, instead the overflow channels have been significantly enlarged. An adaptation to the engine housing is therefore mandatory for full power/torque.

MALOSSI 177 SPORT
The Sport Cylinder is aimed at users who want to use their engine to its full potential in everyday life and therefore do not attach great importance to extreme peak power and revs. Malossi therefore uses tame steering angles that allow the cylinder to start early in the rev range. The large scavenging areas as well as the, in comparison to the MHR, small one-piece exhaust window still allow a good and high torque with a sufficiently large speed range.

  • Stroke x Bore: 57xØ63mm
  • Displacement: 177,59cm³
  • Exhaust angle: 173,5°.
  • Angle of overcurrent: 115.5°.
  • Leading edge angle: 29°.
  • Pinch point: 1.0mm (piston is 0.5mm back in the top dead center)
  • Compression ratio: 1:10.8
  • Overcurrent channels: 7
  • piston rings: 2
  • ignition timing: 18°v.Ot.

The cylinder harmonizes well with a revised inlet with increased area/inlet angle and larger carburetor (e.g. SI24). A stable and well suited crankshaft is for example the BGM Pro or Mazechelli with 57mm or 60mm stroke. This has moderately extended intake angles that perfectly match a powerful but fully suitable for everyday use engine concept. The BGM BigBox Touring or the Polini Box are suitable as exhaust systems. Both support the cylinder very well in the intended speed range and allow the full potential of the cylinder to be exploited.

NOTE: The high bolt heads of the exhaust flange plate can be in the way of the exhaust manifold clamp. It is best to replace them with flat head bolts,

Warning: use of a fast flow fuel tap is required
